A Matter of the Head or the Heart?

I have noticed that in psychic and spiritual circles the head and the heart are often times pitted against one another. Some people believe that the heart is the most sacred of spaces and that the head should be relegated to some forgotten place. While others see the head as the seat of consciousness and psychic awareness. The heart can be flighty and unreliable, causing difficulties when psychic sight is the goal. The head can be full of division and is at times easily programmed with unwanted or poisonous information. Both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses. Which school of thought is right? Which organ should we invest all of our time into at the expense of the other? What if we didn't have to choose? What if this heart head dichotomy could be bridged.  I will admit that I was trained in a system that does not value the heart and I have suffered because of it. My ability to express and know love on a spiritual level is in some ways stunted. I have had to take it upon myself to delve into the combined worlds of heart and head, Love and awareness. These are some of my findings. The first thing I have found is that the head and the heart are not in competition with one another. In fact they can and do serve one another. Using our physical bodies as an example will show that the brain cannot and will not function without the heart, and the heart cannot survive without the brain. It is a complex series of nerves and blood vessels that allow both to exist and thrive in their own separate but connected realms. The head and the heart support one another because they do different things. The heart connects and nourishes us while the head allows us to be self aware in that connectedness. Think again on the physical body. That complex network of nerves and blood vessels reach to every aspect of our physical selves. The blood to maintain life and help clear away waste, the innervation to remind us that we are still in fact alive. Now I know what some of you may be thinking. We need more of our heart to live than we do our brain. Therefor the heart is the superior space. It is the truth that our bodies need a healthy heart more than we need a healthy brain. But the quality of our physical existence is directly correlated to the strength of our mental capacities. We need both. On a psychic level I see the heart as a portal to our infinite eternal selves. The heart connects us to all that is, was and could be. It is why we feel love on that level. It reminds us that we are not just these limited finite bodies. I see the mind as the physical command center. A type of bridge or cockpit if you will. With all of these advanced and sophisticated tools to measure and experience the world we find ourselves in. Tools we can use to travel outside of this space and time, away from our physical finite bodies. When we chose one over the other we limit our abilities. It would be like cutting off one of our hands or feet and demanding that the one remaining pick up the slack. It can be done but at what cost. Having learned to "see" first I am aware of my strengths and limitations. I can see into the depths of reality and creation but I struggle having real and meaningful connections to the things around me. I know people who are so intensely connected to their hearts and the hearts of others but have almost no awareness of the energies they are connected to. A fully realized version of myself has both and that is what I work on creating. A great first step it to unblock the duality of thought that has existed in my space for so long. My head and heart walk hand in hand from here on.
